Sharlie Shuffle Trail Run
The Sharlie Shuffle is a timed loop event held in Ponderosa State Park in McCall, Idaho. Organized by a non-profit dedicated to trail conservation, the event functions as a fundraiser where registration fees and donations are directed toward the maintenance of the park trails. Participants can choose between two main time formats to complete as many laps as possible:
- 12-hour
- 6-hour
The primary loop covers 4.79 miles and features approximately 640 feet of elevation gain per lap. The course consists of varied terrain, including single-track, double-track, rolling trails, rocky sections, and small portions of pavement, boardwalks, and stairs. For the final two hours of the event, a shorter 2.18-mile loop becomes available for those concerned about finishing a full long lap before the cutoff.
This event follows low-impact principles, aiming to produce minimal waste. The course remains a secret until the day of the run to maintain a traditional atmosphere. Hand-made bibs and recognition items are used instead of mass-produced materials. The park offers camping facilities, and additional lodging is available in the surrounding McCall area. While the trails are typically dry by June, the mountain weather can vary between sunny, rainy, or chilly conditions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
