Sharlie Shuffle Trail Run
The Sharlie Shuffle is an annual fundraising trail event at Ponderosa State Park in McCall, Idaho. The event offers timed loop running options with choices to run for extended periods during the day. All proceeds support Ponderosa State Park trails and local trail work.
The standard loop is 4.79 miles with about 640 feet of gain per loop. Near the end of the event a shorter 2.18-mile loop is available for participants who prefer a reduced distance. The course uses varied trail terrain, including single-track and some double-track, stairs, boardwalks, rocky sections, and short stretches of pavement, with views of Payette Lake.
Race operations emphasize low-impact practices and sustainability: the event minimizes disposable paper products, favors locally sourced aid and prizes, and aims for minimal race-day trash. Race-day features include handmade bibs and finish mementos, lap counting with star stickers, and locally supplied food at aid stations. Organizers keep the detailed course configuration private until race day and may reroute sections to protect trail conditions when necessary.
The Sharlie Shuffle is staged in early June, when mountain weather can vary widely from warm and sunny to wet or briefly snowy. Campground reservations are available at the park and overnight parking is limited to designated campground areas. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
