Rainow 5

Rainow, United Kingdom • 6 May 2026

Event

The Rainow 5 is a small trail/fell race held on the first Wednesday in May. It is organised by a club member and supported by club volunteers. The event is licensed under FRA and is run under FRA rules. Entry is open to runners aged 16 years or older. Pre-entry is encouraged, spaces from a wait list are offered where possible, and limited entry on the day is allowed. The race typically attracts around 250–300 runners; entries reached 285 in 2023. Proceeds are donated to local organisations and charities, and low-key prizes are given to category winners. Post-race cakes are provided and a nearby pub is often used for post-race socialising.

Route and history

The course is a hilly route around Rainow and Kerridge Ridge. The published distance is:

  • 5 miles

A GPX file of the route is available. The first Rainow fell race was held on 6 July 1989; that original route was longer than the current course and was used for a few years before a shorter route was introduced. From 1992 the main race has been held under FRA rules. A short fun run was organised for several years in the 1990s with about 20–30 participants. The race route crosses paths now managed as the Kerridge Ridge Nature Reserve. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
