Rainow 5

The Rainow 5 is a trail/fell race on the edge of the Peak District organised by a member of Macclesfield Harriers and supported by club volunteers. The course is about 5 miles (8 km) on public footpaths and takes in White Nancy and the Kerridge Ridge. The route includes hilly terrain with roughly 230 m of ascent. A GPX file of the route is available.

Race details

The event is run under FRA rules and holds a permit with associated UK Athletics insurance. Entrants must be 16 years or older. Pre-entry is used and places are limited; entries normally open in March and close when the race is full. Typical entry numbers are around 250-300 runners, with a recorded 285 participants in 2023. There is no junior race and teams are not allowed.

Post-race teas and cakes are provided and there is a nearby pub option. Low-key prizes are given to category winners, often local produce, so that profits can be donated. All proceeds are donated to local organisations and charities, including local mountain rescue, the village institute, footpath restoration groups and wildlife trust projects.
