Rainow 5 : event overview
The Rainow 5 is a trail/fell race held in Rainow on the edge of the Peak District, traditionally on the first Wednesday in May; the date for 2026 is Wednesday 6 May 2026. The event follows a hilly route of about 5 miles (approximately 8 km) that takes in White Nancy and the Kerridge ridge, with roughly 230 m (around 750 ft) of ascent. The course uses footpaths and ridge-top sections.
The race is organised by a club member with support from club volunteers and is run under Fell Runners Association (FRA) rules with an associated permit and UK Athletics insurance. Entrants must be 16 years or older. Entry is managed via pre-entry and places are limited; entries may close when full.
The event typically attracts around 250 to 300 runners, with a record entry of 285 finishers in 2023. Low-key prizes are presented to category winners so that profits can be maximised for local causes. All proceeds are donated to community organisations and local rescue and conservation groups, including village projects, footpath restoration, mountain rescue and wildlife trust initiatives.
