  • 20 miles - 1750 ft climb
  • 35 miles - 3500 ft climb

Course, rules and facilities

The route mainly follows the Ripon Rowel and visits wooded valleys and historic sites such as Fountains Abbey, Studley Water gardens, the River Skell Valley of the Seven Bridges, St Margaret’s Church and Hackfall Woods. Provisional GPX files and a route description are available from the organiser; the final route will be emailed with competitor instructions. Routes will be taped, but runners should not rely solely on tape for navigation.

All ultramarathon entrants receive a tracker; half marathon and 20-mile runners can hire a tracker for a fee. Pressing the tracker emergency button ends the race and requests help. A kit list applies to all distances and random kit checks may be carried out on course. Checkpoints are at North Stainley (6.5 miles), Masham (14.7 miles, ultra only) and Skelding (14.2 miles on the 20, 26.5 on the ultra). Parking uses a nearby field for a small donation; parking in the village may lead to disqualification. Finishers receive a medal and event T-shirt unless they opt out.
