Trail Running in North Yorkshire
The Punk Panther Ripon Stinger takes place near the historic city of Ripon, with the event hub located at Studley Roger Village Hall. The routes primarily follow the Ripon Rowel, a scenic path that traverses wooded valleys and significant historical landmarks. Participants run through the world heritage site of Fountains Abbey and Studley Water Gardens, as well as the River Skell's Valley of the Seven Bridges.
The event offers three distinct distances:
- Half Marathon (approx. 13 miles)
- 20 Miles
- Ultra 35 Miles
The courses feature varied elevation, with the Half Marathon gaining 750 feet, the 20-mile route gaining 1,750 feet, and the Ultra distance reaching 3,500 feet of climb. The Ultra route includes an additional section through the Valley of the Seven Bridges. Runners can also enjoy views of St Margaret’s Church and Hackfall woods.
Course amenities include checkpoints stocked with water, soft drinks, and various snacks, with specific options available for vegan and gluten-free participants. For safety, a mandatory kit list applies to all runners, including items such as a waterproof jacket with taped seams, a survival bag, and a first aid kit. All ultramarathon participants are issued a tracker for real-time monitoring, a service also available for hire by runners in the shorter categories.
The event accommodates a maximum of 200 entrants. Finishers receive a medal and an event T-shirt, and hot food and drinks are provided at the finish line. Dedicated event parking is arranged in a nearby field for a small charitable donation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
