Pendle Cloughs Fell Race

Pendle Cloughs Fell Race

Pendle Cloughs is an AL-category fell race covering 14 miles with approximately 4100 ft of ascent. The event is open to runners aged 18 years or over on race day and is held from the village of Downham, with registration in Downham Village Hall (BB7 4BJ). Car parking is available at the Village Hall and at the village Information Centre; organisers ask runners to car share and follow signs and marshals.

Entry is available online via Si Entries; a reduced fee applies to FRA members. Limited entry on the day may be possible for an additional fee if the race limit has not been reached. Full FRA mandatory kit must be carried and presented at registration for checking; no kit means no run, and runners without required kit at the finish will be disqualified.

The route leaves Downham across flagged fields onto open fell and requires visiting nine checkpoints in order. The course passes through seven named cloughs and covers remote sections of Pendle, including high, rough and in places trackless moorland. Terrain includes steep ascents and descents, loose stones, mud, peat and rough grass or dead bracken. Some sections are flagged and walls or fences must not be climbed. Checkpoint cut-offs are used and runners arriving after cut-off times are out of the race and must return to the finish.

A map with checkpoints, grid references and cut-offs is provided for competitors. The village offers basic amenities including a pub and a cafe. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
