Pendle Cloughs Fell Race

The Pendle Cloughs Fell Race is an AL category fell race held on Saturday 9 May 2026, organised by Clayton-le-Moors Harriers and registered with the Fell Runners Association under UKA rules. The course is approximately 14 miles / 22.5 km with about 1250 m / 4101 ft of ascent and has a minimum age of 18 on race day.

Registration and parking are at Downham Village Hall, just south of the village centre (BB7 4BJ), with additional parking at the village Information Centre. There is a registration check where full FRA mandatory kit must be presented; competitors without the required kit will not be allowed to run or will be disqualified if missing kit at the finish. Checkpoint cut-offs apply and are published on the race map.

The route starts from Downham and is flagged across fields onto open fell. Runners must visit nine checkpoints in order and may choose their own lines between flagged sections, passing through seven named cloughs: Burst, Mearley, Ogden, Deep, Churn, Ashendean and Boar. Terrain includes high, rough and at times trackless moorland with steep ascents and descents, loose stones, mud, peat and rough grass or dead bracken. A steep shale traverse on Deep Clough can be avoided by an alternative ascent. The final two miles descend to the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
