Pendle Cloughs Fell Race
The race starts from Downham and is flagged through fields before runners choose their own routes to nine checkpoints. The course visits seven of Pendle’s cloughs and includes areas of Pendle that are seldom used, with some pathless terrain that requires navigation and route choice. From the trig the route descends toward the finish, offering fast running on the downhill sections, while CP8 lies on a long climb back up.
This event is held under UKA rules and is registered with the FRA as an AL category race. Competitors must carry full FRA mandatory kit; kit is checked at registration and runners found without the required kit at the finish will be disqualified. Distance is 22.5 km / 14 miles with total ascent of 1250 m / 4101 ft. Minimum age is 18. Registration takes place in Downham Village Hall, 100 m south and up the hill from the centre of Downham BB7 4BJ. Entries open January 2027 via SiEntries. Pre-entry and entry-on-day fees apply, there is a limit of 200 entries, and entry on the day is only available if the limit is not met. Car parking is available at the Village Hall and at the Information Centre in the village; competitors should follow signs and marshals' instructions. Skills listed for the event are ER, PM, LK, NS.
