Beyond the Lune Skyline Ultra

Beyond the Lune Skyline Ultra is a single-loop trail event starting and finishing from the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale. The route covers 65 km with about 2000 m of ascent, runs mostly on footpaths and bridleways, and includes roughly 10 km on tarmac. The course passes seven summits, several local landmarks, and a section known as the Radical Steps near the final approach to the finish.

Participants must be 18 or older and able to self-navigate the whole loop using a map or GPS unit; a GPX file of the route is provided. There are two checkpoints with food and water along the way. Mandatory kit listed at registration includes a rucksack or race vest, trail shoes, waterproof jacket and overtrousers with taped seams, warm hat and gloves, survival bag, map or GPS and compass, whistle, a small first aid kit, plus personal food and water. Event provisions at the start and finish include a hot pastry and drink at the outset and a finisher beer and pizza at the finish. Merchandise and other event items may be available. A 24 mile fell run and challenge walk through Swaledale on 13 June 2026, organised by Swaledale Outdoor Club. Competitors must navigate the route themselves and finish within 10 hours; minimum age 14.
