Beyond the Lune Skyline Ultra

The Beyond the Lune Skyline Ultra is a long-distance trail running event that follows a circular route starting and finishing at The Royal Barn in the center of Kirkby Lonsdale. Participants navigate a course that covers approximately 65 km (40 miles) with a total ascent of 2000 m (6500 ft). The terrain consists primarily of footpaths and bridleways, with approximately 10 km of the route on tarmac.

The loop traverses the local skyline, taking in seven summits and various landmarks. A notable feature near the end of the course is a climb known as the Radical steps. Runners must be at least 18 years old to participate and are expected to self-navigate using a map or GPS unit. The event has a total time limit of 13.5 hours to complete the course.

The route includes two checkpoints with food and water provided. Mandatory equipment is required for all participants, which includes waterproof clothing with taped seams, a survival bag, a first aid kit, a whistle, and navigation tools. Registration includes a pastry and hot drink at the start, as well as a beer and pizza upon completion. Participants also receive Beyond the Lune merchandise and a GPX file of the route.
