The Drop - Kendal

The Drop is a stripped-back navigation challenge held from an event centre at Podda & Wren Coffee Roasters, 4 Elephant Yard, Kendal, LA9 4QQ. Participants are taken by bus to an undisclosed location while wearing blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives. When blindfolds are removed the clock starts and each participant must find their own way back to the event centre on foot.

At registration participants hand over all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids and receive a race number plus a sealed emergency bag to carry. Distances are stated as the crow flies; actual routes will be significantly longer.

Available distance options:

  • 15 miles, original Drop distance, measured as the crow flies.
  • 10 miles, same rules in a shorter format.
  • 6 miles, for non-locals only; entries may be checked.

Core rules include no GPS unless the device is sealed inside the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, travel on foot only, and disqualification if the emergency bag seal is broken. An optional live GPS tracking service is available for safety and sharing; trackers must be returned after the event or a replacement fee will apply. Participants are expected to read the FAQs covering required kit and safety information before event day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
