ALPKIT x The Lap - Wansfell Recce
Participants meet at the Alpkit shop in Ambleside for coffee and croissants before a 7.5 miles recce of the Wansfell section of The Lap. The route is run clockwise and covers roughly 12 km, beginning and ending at the shop. Runners head up Wansfell via the steeper side to reach a high viewpoint with long views along Windermere, then descend toward the Old Post Office Cafe for a break. Trails through Jenkins Wood return to Ambleside.
The event is organised with multiple pace groups: a quicker group aiming to move at race pace, a more relaxed chatty group, and a group paced in between. The Lap is well waymarked, so the recce focuses on terrain familiarity and route feel rather than navigation training. Recommended kit includes trail shoes, suitable clothing, water and snacks. Lake District weather can change quickly, and a waterproof jacket is described as essential. Ticket refunds are available up to seven days before the event. The session is held in person at Alpkit Ambleside and is intended as a local recce of the Wansfell, Baystones, Troutbeck and Jenkins Wood sections of the route.
