Beyond the Lune Summer Trails
The Beyond the Lune Summer Trails event offers three distinct distances starting from The Royal Barn in the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale. The routes showcase the local area, including the surrounding parishes of Casterton and the Lune Valley. Participants pass through a mix of on-road and off-road sections, utilizing local footpaths and bridleways.
Available distances include:
- 5 km
- 10 km
- 20 km
The 5 km route is a family-friendly course that heads toward Casterton golf club and returns along the river, incorporating the 99 steps near the finish. The 10 km route passes through Casterton and around the Bullpot area before returning to Devils Bridge and the river path. The 20 km route is a tour of Brownthwaite Pike (also known as Bullpot). It features a steep fell road and highlights the local trig point, providing views looking out over the Lake District and the Lune Valley.
Participants on the 10 km and 20 km courses are expected to be able to self-navigate, and a GPX file of the route is provided. These longer routes are partially signed with marshals present. The 5 km route is fully signed. All participants receive refreshments at The Royal Barn, which serves as both the start and finish location. Entry requirements include a minimum age of 16 for solo runners, while those under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
