The Beyond the Lune Summer Trails is a trail running event taking place on Saturday 20th June 2026. It offers three route distances: 5km, 10km, and 20km. All routes start and finish at The Royal Barn in the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale.

Route Details

The trails explore the local area of Kirkby Lonsdale and the surrounding parish of Casterton. All routes use a mix of local footpaths, bridleways, and some on and off-road sections. A feature of the course is the '99' steps.

  • 5km: This is described as a family-friendly route. It heads out towards Casterton Golf Club and returns along the river. The route is fully signed with marshals.
  • 10km: This route uses paths around Casterton and the area known as the Bullpot, returning via Devils Bridge and the river path. Participants are recommended to be able to self-navigate. The route is partially signed.
  • 20km: This longer route tours Brownthwaite Pike (Bullpot), reaching a trig point with views over the Lune Valley before descending to Devils Bridge and the river path. Participants must be able to self-navigate. The route is partially signed.

What's Included

All entrants receive Beyond the Lune merchandise. For the 5km, a hot or cold refreshment and cake is included at the finish. For the 10km and 20km, a free pastry and coffee or other hot drink is provided at the start.
