Beyond the Lune Summer Trails

Beyond the Lune Summer Trails offers three trail running options that start from The Barn in the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale. The event uses local footpaths, bridleways and river paths and includes both on and off road sections.

The courses pass through surrounding parishes including Casterton and notable local features such as Brownthwaite Pike (Bullpot), Devils Bridge, river paths and the '99' steps. The longest route reaches a trig point with views over the Lune Valley and the Lake District on clear days.

Route signing and services vary by distance. The 5km route is fully signed with marshals and includes a hot or cold refreshment and cake at the finish. The 10km and 20km routes are partially signed, provided with a GPX file, and include a free pastry and hot drink at the start, event merchandise, a seasonal Barny Box at the finish, and a finishers beer with age restrictions. U13s can enter the 5km free with an adult (maximum two children per adult). Under 16s may participate only when running with a parent or guardian.

Entries open 23 December 2025 and close 15 June 2026. Entry fees are £25 for 20km, £20 for 10km, and £10 for 5km. All runs have a cut off time of 1pm. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

Enjoy a 10 km stroll or jog through the Eden Valley reaching the summit of Birket Fell. This evening event features a local food tasting experience and guided options with hosts sharing local history and mountain stories.

A short fell race at Beckside Farm in Ulverston on 13 June 2026 featuring a climb to the top of Flan Fell and separate turning points for Under 14 and older categories.

A 24 mile fell run and challenge walk through Swaledale on 13 June 2026, organised by Swaledale Outdoor Club. Competitors must navigate the route themselves and finish within 10 hours; minimum age 14.
