Event overview
The New River Trail Races take place on April 11, 2026, in Fries, Virginia, within New River Trail State Park. The course is 100% dirt, flat, and follows the New River and Chestnut Creek. Each distance uses an out-and-back route. Distances offered include:
- 100k
- 50K
- 25K
- New River Trail 10K
The event provides packet pick-up at the Start/Finish area on the evening before the race and on race morning. Headlamps or flashlights are required for the 100k; 50k runners are advised to bring lighting for number pick-up. Parking is across a grassy field with limited lighting. Park users must pay the Virginia State Parks day fee on-site unless they hold a monthly or annual pass. Runners who register after April 1 will not receive a race shirt. 100k finishers receive a buckle.
Aid stations, drop bags, and awards
Aid station locations: the 50k and 100k use aid stations at miles 2, 5, 11.82, 15.94, 20.06, and 25.73. The 25k uses stations at miles 2, 5, 7.5, 10, and 13. The 10k has aid at about miles 2 and 4.2. Each aid station is stocked with electrolyte drink, water, Coke, PB&J, salty snacks, candy, and fruit, with hot food at select stations. This is a cupless race; runners must carry at least one water bottle or cup because no disposable cups are provided. 50k and 100k runners may leave clearly marked drop bags at the Start/Finish on race morning for transport to the Cliffview turnaround and return to the finish area later the same day. Awards are given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall in Male, Female, and Nonbinary divisions and for multiple age-group categories from 20 and under through 70 and up.
