Mountain Masochist Trail Run - November 7, 2026
The Mountain Masochist Trail Run takes place in Montebello, Virginia and uses a looped course that begins and ends at the Montebello Campground. The event features varied terrain including singletrack, old jeep roads, dirt and logging roads, and stretches of gravel through the National Forest. Recent course changes increase singletrack time and reduce gravel road sections.
The course runs toward the Mount Pleasant Loop and follows the Old Hotel Trail and jeep roads toward Long Mountain Wayside. After the Long Mountain aid station the route continues on dirt and logging roads and several miles of singletrack. The last aid station is at Porters Ridge, after which runners descend about 3.5 miles on Route 56 back to the campground. The course traverses Blue Ridge areas known for peak fall foliage.
Practical notes include site specific camping reservations available through the event registration system and a campsite map for participants. Training runs and trail work are planned in October with dates to be determined; training runs start at the Montebello Store and follow an out and back route. A pre race briefing is held in Montebello and a post race meal is provided for finishers. National Geographic Map number 789 covers the area.
