Mountain Masochist Trail Run (Montebello, VA)
Mountain Masochist Trail Run is an annual trail event held in Montebello, Virginia, offering multiple long-distance options over Blue Ridge terrain. After more than 40 years and several course changes, the event uses a route that begins and ends at Montebello Campground and follows the historical MMTR course in reverse toward the Mount Pleasant Loop. The route combines old and new trails, dirt and gravel roads through the National Forest, and extended sections of single track near Mount Pleasant and on the second half of the course.
2026 course changes reduce time on gravel roads and add more mountain and single-track mileage. Near Mount Pleasant runners follow the Old Hotel Trail and old jeep roads toward Long Mountain Wayside. After Long Mountain aid station the course uses dirt and old logging roads plus several miles of single track. The final descent from Porters Ridge drops about 3.5 miles to Rt 56 and the Montebello Campground finish. The course traverses Blue Ridge areas that are near peak fall foliage in November.
