Great Eastern Endurance Run - Lyndhurst, VA

The Great Eastern Endurance Run takes place on November 7, 2026 at Sherando Lake Recreation Area in Lyndhurst, Virginia. The event offers three trail distances:

  • 40 Miler
  • 20 Miler
  • 10 Miler

The courses run through Appalachian forest and include mostly singletrack and remote forest road with brief stretches of pavement. Runners will encounter ridgelines, a Bald Mountain summit, steep switchbacks, rocky jeep roads, and varied fall foliage.

Aid stations are staffed and stocked. Specific counts by distance: seven aid stations on the 40 miler (not including start and finish), two on the 20 miler, and one on the 10 miler. Typical supplies include water, electrolyte drink, ice, fruit, salty snacks, sweet options, gels, candies, chips, and pretzels. The longest unsupported stretch is 9.3 miles on the 20 miler. Crew access is allowed at designated points reachable via the Blue Ridge Parkway; vehicles should be parked with all four wheels off the pavement. The 40 miler has one crew-only location at Bald Mountain Overlook.

Cutoff times are strictly enforced for safety: 12 hours for the 40 miler and 6 hours for the 20 miler. Drop bag rules include no valuables, a maximum size of a small backpack, and required labeling with aid station name, bib number, and runner name. Kennedy Trail drop bags return to the finish around 2 PM. Bald Mountain drop bags return after 4 PM and are not vehicle accessible. Unclaimed drop bags will not be shipped.

Finishers receive a custom medal and a technical race shirt. The event is produced by Bad to the Bone Sports. Registration opens July 25 and closes November 7 at 11:59 PM ET. Entry fees vary by distance and date tier, for example the 40 miler is $100 until Sept 1, $110 until Oct 1, and $120 thereafter. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
