Course, support and policies
The course is described as a true mountain route in the Blue Ridge Mountains, composed mostly of single track and jeep roads with very little pavement. Terrain includes climbs, Bald Mountain jeep road, technical singletrack, and forested ridgelines. Primitive camping at Sherando Lake may be available pending Forest Service approval.
Aid and logistics: the 40-mile course has seven aid stations (not counting start and finish), the 20-mile course has two aid stations, and the 10-mile course has one aid station. Aid stations supply water, electrolyte drink, ice, fruit, salty snacks, sweet treats, GU vanilla gels, candies, chips, and pretzels. Cutoffs are strictly enforced: 12 hours for the 40-mile and 6 hours for the 20-mile. Crew access is available at designated points by vehicle via the Blue Ridge Parkway; parking must be off the pavement. Drop bag rules limit size, require labeling, and note specific return times for certain locations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
