Midsummer Mortimer Trail 2026

The Midsummer Mortimer Trail takes place on 20 June 2026 and finishes at Ludlow Castle in Ludlow, Shropshire. It is a back-to-basics, self-navigating trail event following the Mortimer Trail through the Marches of England landscape. The course surface is mixed trail, field and road with forests, limestone tops and pastures, and includes a succession of hills and ridges with some strenuous climbs.

Distances:

  • ~30 miles Kington Ultra; age 18-98; fee £55
  • ~14 miles Croft Half; age 18-98; fee £35

The Kington Ultra starts in Kington, Herefordshire and crosses into Shropshire, passing features such as the rivers Arrow, Lugg and Teme, Wapley hill fort, Croft Ambrey, Orleton Common, the High Vinnals and Mary Knoll Valley while meandering through several villages. Estimated walk time 9-12 hours, estimated run time 5-9 hours. The Croft Half starts in Aymestrey, Herefordshire and follows a shorter version of similar terrain. Estimated walk time 3-5 hours, estimated run time 2-3 hours.

Registration for the Ultra and Half occurs at the respective start locations; entries are managed through SiEntries and there are entry closing and opening dates. A multi lap running event from The Unicorn Inn in Telford with routes of 8, 16 and 26.2 miles passing Ironbridge Gorge and returning via the Silkin Way. Ales, pub food and event bling are available after the runs.

A new 50K route from Telford Town Park to Shrewsbury that visits multiple historic Shropshire sites. The event includes chip timing, five nutrition stations, measured routes, free photos and a special series-linking segment medal.

A point to point race of about 5 miles along river paths and the canal towpath on 17 May 2026, organised by Maldwyn Harriers. The course finishes at Abermule Community Centre and includes refreshments and awards.

A short, hilly 5.3 km race in All Stretton on 20 May 2026 with registration at the Yew Tree Inn. The event includes junior races, supports local charities, and forms part of the Shropshire Summer Series.
