Midsummer Mortimer Trail 2026

The Midsummer Mortimer Trail is a back to basics, self-navigating trail event on 20 June 2026 that follows the Mortimer Trail to the grand entrance of Ludlow Castle. It takes place across the Marches of England landscape and crosses county boundaries between Herefordshire and Shropshire.

Distances

  • Approximately 30 miles Kington Ultra
  • Approximately 14 to 15 miles Croft Half

The Kington Ultra starts in Kington and follows mixed trail, field and road terrain through extensive forests, limestone tops and gentle pastures. The route passes Wapley hill fort, Croft Ambrey, Orleton Common, the High Vinnals and Mary Knoll Valley, and crosses the valleys of the rivers Arrow, Lugg and Teme while passing several villages. Estimated walk time is 9 to 12 hours and estimated run time is 5 to 9 hours.

The Croft Half starts in Aymestrey and follows a shorter version of the same terrain with similar hills and ridges. Estimated walk time is 3 to 5 hours and estimated run time is 2 to 3 hours. Entry is restricted to participants aged 18 to 98.

Parking is available at Ludlow Rugby Club and there is an optional transport service from the rugby club to start locations for a fee of £15 per person. Entry fees are £55 for the Kington Ultra and £35 for the Croft Half. Participants may purchase XCover for potential refund protection. A muddy trail run at Eastnor Castle on 26 April 2026 with 3km, 6km and 10km options, natural obstacles and marked, marshalled routes. Camping, basic facilities and event medals available; group discounts apply.

A time limited Backyard ultra on a 4.167 mile loop in Eastnor Castle Deer Park. Solo runners must start a new lap on the hour while relay teams run continuously and combine laps over eight hours.

A multi-distance trail ultra on 2 May 2026 around the Worcestershire Way, with options of 23, 31, 38 or 47 miles. Self-navigation, downloadable GPX and staffed checkpoints support runners while timelord pacers offer route guidance.

A trail event from Carding Mill Valley offering a Half Marathon or Marathon over a 13.1 mile lap of the Long Mynd, with entries limited to 200 for the main race and a virtual option during the week of May 4th.
