Looking Glass 100K
The Looking Glass 100K is a trail run that tours the Pisgah area around Looking Glass Rock. The route passes through various ecosystems, including hardwood forests and high-elevation mountain balds. Key features along the course include the Art Loeb Trail, the High Balds of Black Balsam above 6,000 feet, and multiple waterfalls.
The event starts and finishes at the field across from Davidson River Campground near the Pisgah Ranger Station. The course uses a mix of smooth singletrack, technical singletrack, grassy double track, gravel, and a short section of pavement. Several stream crossings are required. The distance is approximately 62 miles with about 10,500 feet of elevation gain and loss. The time limit is 20 hours.
There are ten aid stations along the course. Eight are full-service, and two are self-serve fluid-only stations. Crew access is available at aid stations 2, 4, and 5. Drop bags are allowed at full aid stations 1, 3, and 5. Pacers are allowed to join at aid station 5 (mile 41.8) and must complete the final ~20 miles.
All participants must carry mandatory safety gear at all times, including a headlamp, weatherproof jacket, emergency bivy, insulating base layer, warm hat, gloves, whistle, hydration carrier, and GPS tracker. Gear checks will be conducted.
Packet pickup is on Friday before the event at Appalachian Mountain Brewery in Mills River, North Carolina. There is no race morning pickup. A pre-race meeting will be held at 5pm that Friday.
Registration opens on May 1st. The event provides participants with a long-sleeve hoodie shirt, a custom finisher award, live tracking, post-race food, and craft beer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
