The TreeTops 8.5 Mile Trail Race is the fourth annual running held within DuPont State Recreational Forest near Brevard, North Carolina. The event is listed at 3045 Sky Valley Rd, Hendersonville, NC, and is limited to 300 participants. It benefits the Friends of DuPont State Forest; additional fundraising is promoted for local organizations.
The course covers 8.5 mile of trail with nearly 1,000 feet of elevation gain and includes on-course hydration stations. Amenities reported for the event include medical aid stations, porta-potties, post-finish refreshments and snacks, and complimentary race photos. The race is chip timed and in-person entries include a race number, finisher medal, a goody bag, and a long sleeve shirt while supplies last. A virtual 8.5 mile option is offered; virtual entries also include a finisher medal and a shirt while supplies last.
All finishers receive a custom wooden finisher medal on a genuine leather cord. Shirts are provided free to registrations completed before the stated deadline; after that date shirts are available for purchase in limited sizes. Packet pickup occurs on race day at the Picnic Shelter and closes prior to the start. Strollers are not permitted on the course, dogs are not allowed at the event, and camping in DuPont State Forest is not permitted. There is no age limit for participation; minors require a parent or guardian signature. After the race, the DuPont Forest Festival offers vendors, hikes, yoga, biking, waterfall exploration and outdoor recreation information with free admission.
