The Dark Horse Trail Series takes place at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, North Carolina on August 22, 2026. The event offers three measured distances:
- 26.2 miles
- 13.1 miles
- 10K
The marked course is built on a 6.5-mile loop through the equestrian center. Terrain includes wide packed dirt paths, single-track trails, and meadows. Each loop has about 600 feet of elevation gain.
There is a single aid station located at the start/finish area offering water, cola, ginger ale and a selection of snacks including pickles, cookies, fig newtons, chips, and pretzels. This is a cup-less event; participants should bring a personal hydration vessel. Donations of homemade snacks and supplies are accepted for the aid station.
Logistics note: packet pickup is at the start/finish area prior to each race. Participant parking is located by the start/finish line next to the General Store; vehicles enter via the main gate and follow the driveway to the left. The equestrian center provides on-site camping and cabin rentals.
Registration opens August 25, 2025 and closes January 5, 2026. Published registration fees are $30.00 for the marathon, $25.00 for the half marathon, and $25.00 for the 10K.
