The event is a timed endurance event on the Thermal Belt Rail Trail in Forest City, NC. The primary course is an approximately 8.34 mile out-and-back on paved rail trail that starts and finishes at the Pavilion on Park Square. Mileage is recorded at the Spindale turnaround at 4.17 miles and at the Forest City aid station.

Aid stations are described as well stocked. The course has low elevation change, about 95 feet over the loop, and roughly 35% of the route is shaded. Medical personnel will be on site for injuries or emergencies. Dogs are not allowed on the course. Headphones are permitted.

Rules for pacers and crews differ by race length: 3 hour and 6 hour runners may not use a pacer; 12 hour runners may have a pacer only after six hours and pacers must be 18 years or older and check in and sign a waiver. Support crews may assist only in the Forest City aid station area. Relay teams are allowed provided each runner completes at least one lap.

Drop bags for the Spindale aid station must be labeled and ready for transport by 5:30 AM on race day. Awards are given to top finishers and teams, and runners who cover 50 miles within 12 hours receive a 50 mile belt buckle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
