The fifth annual Not A Sprint Ultra Races is presented by Cancer Active on the Thermal Belt Rail Trail in Forest City, NC. The event uses an out-and-back paved lap of about 8.34 miles that starts and finishes at the Pavilion on Park Square (POPS). The course has low elevation change, listed as 95 feet over the full loop, and shade covers roughly 35 percent of the route. Aid stations are described as well stocked and medical personnel will be on site.

Race formats are timed events with multiple durations. Choose from:

  • 3-Hour Individual
  • 6-Hour Individual
  • 12-Hour Individual

Race rules include pacing and crew restrictions. Runners in the 3-hour and 6-hour events may not have a pacer. 12-hour runners may add a pacer after six hours; pacers must be 18 years or older, check in at the Forest City timing station, and sign a liability waiver. Support crews may assist only in the Forest City aid station area and may not provide assistance on the course. Runners must wear their race numbers on the front or attach the bib to shorts or a bib belt if running shirtless.

Mileage is tracked at the Spindale turnaround (4.17 miles) and at the Forest City aid station (about 8.35 miles). Awards are given to the top three male and top three female individual finishers and to the top three teams. Runners who complete 50 miles within 12 hours receive a Not-A-Sprint belt buckle.
