Not-A-Sprint Ultra Races
The 5th Annual Not-A-Sprint Ultra Races take place in Forest City, NC and are organized by Cancer Active. The event runs on the paved Thermal Belt Rail Trail using an 8.34 mile out and back loop that starts and finishes at the Pavilion on Park Square (POPS). The course is mostly flat with about 95 feet of elevation across the loop and approximately 35 percent shade. Aid stations are described as well stocked.
Race formats are time based and include:
- 3-Hour Individual

- 12-Hour Individual
Individual race rules specify pacing and crew limits. Pacers are not allowed for 3-hour and 6-hour runners. Twelve hour runners may have a pacer after six hours and pacers must be 18 years or older. Pacers must check in at the Forest City timing station and sign a liability waiver. Support crews may assist runners only in the Forest City aid station area. Runners must wear their race numbers on the front or attach them to shorts or a bib belt if running shirtless. Headphones are allowed and dogs are not permitted on the course.
Mileage is tallied at the Spindale turnaround and the Forest City aid station. Awards include top three male and female individuals, top three teams, and a belt buckle for runners who complete 50 miles within 12 hours. Drop bags must be labeled for transport and returned to the POPS return area. Medical personnel and race officials will be on site. Packet pickup is listed as TBD.
Included items listed for participants are a t-shirt, medal, 50 mile buckle, 50k award, water, electrolyte drinks, race fuel, post-race food, and one post-race beer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
