Langdale Horseshoe

Langdale Horseshoe is scheduled for Saturday 10 October 2026. The advertised course distance is 21.1 km / 1450 m (12.5 miles / 4600 ft). Entries open on 1 August via the SI Entries system and the field is limited to 550 competitors.

The route is over almost exclusively rocky and slippy ground with many pathless sections. October weather often reduces visibility, making navigation difficult. The race uses several numbered checkpoints with published grid references and intermediate cut-off times. Competitors are expected to meet Fell Running Association safety requirements and to have relevant mountain running experience. The stated entry requirement is two medium or long mountainous category A non‑GPS fell races in the previous three years, or similar mountain experience. The organiser does not allow the use of certain GPS functions for navigation in line with FRA rules.

Entry fees are £13.50 for FRA members and £16.50 for non‑FRA members; the entry fee is said to include a warm pie. Team entries are permitted (men four, ladies three) at no extra cost. There are no refunds though substitutions can be made via SI Entries up to the Wednesday before the race. Competitors are responsible for issued Sportident dibbers; a charge of £30 applies for damaged or lost units. Race parking and registration are near the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel at the head of the Langdale valley.

The standing course records are 1:55:03 for men and 2:22:50 for women; a cash prize of £100 is offered to a winner who breaks a record. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
