The Langdale Horseshoe is a fell race based at the Old Dungeon Ghyll, Great Langdale (LA22 9JY). The course is listed as 21.1 km / 1450 m (12.5 miles / 4600 ft) and is a counter for the Lakeland Classics Trophy. Entry is by pre-entry only, with a limit of 550 competitors. Entries open on 1 August; the entry fee is £13.50 for FRA members and £16.50 for non-FRA members and includes a free warm pie. The event has a minimum age of 18. There are team entries for men (4) and ladies (3).

Course, safety and race information

The route runs over rough, rocky and frequently slippy ground with many pathless sections and no route waymarking. October weather is often poor and the fells can be clagged, increasing navigation difficulty. Competitors are required to read the event FRA matrix and meet the stated experience requirements; previous relevant mountain or fell-racing experience will be asked for as part of entry and acceptance remains at the organisers' discretion. The event follows FRA safety rules and does not allow certain GPS functions for navigation. Race parking and registration are near the Old Dungeon Ghyll. Entries are non-refundable but substitutions can be made up to the Wednesday before the race; a £30 charge is passed to any competitor who damages or loses a dibber. A cash prize of £100 is offered to either winner who breaks the course record. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
