Langdale Horseshoe

The Langdale Horseshoe is a fell race scheduled for Saturday 10 October 2026, organised by Ambleside AC. The course is listed as AL and is shown as 21.1 km / 1450 m (12.5 miles / 4600 ft). The race is a counter for the Lakeland Classics Trophy.

The route runs over almost exclusively rocky and slippy ground with many pathless sections. October weather can make the fells clagged in, so navigation is often difficult. Competitors should have relevant mountain experience before attempting the course.

Entries open on 1 August via the SI entries website. Entry fees are £13.50 for FRA members and £16.50 for non-FRA members; the entry fee has previously included a warm pie. Entry is limited (previous notices show a limit of 550). There are no refunds, but substitutions have been allowed on SI entries up to the Wednesday before the race. Sportident charges for damaged or lost dibbers have been passed on to competitors in the past.

The entry process includes a requirement to confirm previous experience: typically two medium or long mountainous category A non-GPS fell races in the previous three years, or similar relevant mountain experience. FRA safety requirements apply and certain GPS navigation functions are not permitted in line with FRA rules.

Race parking and registration take place near the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel at the head of the Langdale valley. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
