Knacker Cracker

Knacker Cracker is a trail running event held on 1 January 2027 with registration and parking at Denbies Vineyard, London Road, Dorking RH5 6AA. The race start is at the bottom of Box Hill and the finish is at the top of Box Hill; participants parked at Denbies should return there on foot after the race to collect vehicles.

The main route is exactly 10.000 km, with a total ascent of 473 m and descent of 335 m. From 2025 the course uses the old military road instead of running down the Burford Spur slope, and it no longer runs up to Juniper Top; the route now climbs from the bottom of Happy Valley. If Box Hill is unavailable the organisers switch to a Knacker Cracker B Course around Denbies Vineyard.

Earphones and headphones are not permitted on the course. Entries made after 8pm on 1 December will not have names printed on race t-shirts because of production deadlines. Entry fees are listed between £40.00 and £45.00.

Race formats and support:

  • 10.000 km main race with measured ascent and descent.
  • Nipper Knacker, a kids' fun run.
  • Knicker Knacker, a ladies' race.

Volunteers are used for parking, start and finish duties, course signalling and goodie bag delivery; marshals receive soup and rolls and are offered a free place in a future race. Suggested spectator viewing points include the foot of the Burfoot Slope above Ryka’s Cafe, the National Trust Lookout on Box Hill, and the River Mole stepping stones.
