ICY-8 Adventure Trail Run

The ICY-8 is an annual winter trail event at Lake Anna State Park in Spotsylvania, Virginia. The event uses a looped course format and offers several distance options so participants can choose how much to run within the event time limit. Registration is limited to 125 participants.

Distances offered:

• 8 hour Adventure Trail Run with looped course
• Half Marathon Plus combining long, short, and final loops
• 8 mile option covering the long loop only

Approximately 90 percent of the course is trail; the remaining 10 percent is a short mix of trail and closed paved road totaling about 0.4 miles. Trails include single track and double track; over 70 percent of the route is double track generally about six feet wide. Loop definitions and elevation changes given by the organizers include approximately: long loop 8.0 miles with 640 ft gain, short loop 4.7 miles with 350 ft gain, and a final loop of about 1.5 miles with 100 ft gain.

Participant requirements and amenities are stated: runners must carry a means of hydration and the 8 mile option recommends carrying roughly 200 to 300 calories. Included race amenities note free park admission, a long sleeve technical shirt, food during the event with vegetarian and vegan options, a post run meal, and personalized awards for ultramarathon distances.
