Hungryland uses a 14.3 mile loop through the 3,004-acre Hungryland Slough Natural Area. The loop runs on management roads and double-track paths through pine flatwoods, prairies, swamps, hammocks, and marshes. Surfaces include dirt roads, hard-packed grass, and softer runnable paths near wetlands. The course is flat with no significant elevation gain.
Two timed race options are offered:
- Runner Gunner 6 Hour - one 14.3 mile loop
- 33 Hour Jogger Slogger - as many 14.3 mile loops as desired, minimum one
Entrant capacity is limited to 75 due to the site’s sensitive status. Course and aid locations are subject to change depending on weather and ground conditions; sections can vary from dry and dusty to wet and muddy. Reroutes may occur to maintain safety and access.
Support: there will be a full aid station at the start/finish and an additional manned aid station roughly seven miles into the loop, plus intermediate water and self-serve stations. Pacers are allowed beginning at dusk and through the night. Runners may establish a small base camp near the start/finish.
Rules and policies include no course cutting, leave-no-trace requirements, and prohibited items in the natural area such as firearms, smoking, alcohol, bicycles, horses, and pets.
