Hungryland Trail Races
Hungryland is held inside Hungryland Slough Natural Area near West Palm Beach, FL, on a primarily 14.3 mile loop that traverses a variety of south Florida ecosystems. The loop runs clockwise and uses service roads and footpaths to pass through pine flatwoods, prairies, swamps, hammocks, and wetlands. The surface is mainly double-track with dirt roads, hard packed grassy areas, and softer runnable paths near marshes. The course is described as flat with no significant elevation gain.
Two timed race options use the same loop. Aid and support are provided but subject to change based on conditions; runners should expect to carry personal hydration and nutrition between stations. Full aid stations are at the start/finish and at about mile 7.8 with drop bag access; there are water and ice stations near miles 3 and 10.7 and a full station called Beeline Oasis near mile 6.75. Unmanned self-serve stations provide water, ice, and packaged snacks between manned stations.
Entrant capacity for the event in this natural area is limited to 75. Pacers are permitted starting at dusk and through the night. Completing seven loops equals a 100 mile finish and earns the 100 mile buckle; only fully finished loops count toward results and a DNF on a loop nullifies that effort. The site is environmentally sensitive and several activities are prohibited including firearms, removal of vegetation, smoking, littering, feeding wildlife, bicycles, horses, alcohol, and dogs.
