Hungryland Trail Races : Hungryland Slough Natural Area

The event takes place in the Hungryland Slough Natural Area near West Palm Beach, FL, a 3,004 acre site with pine flatwoods, prairies, swamps, hammocks, and management roads. Organizers use a 14.3 mile pseudo iron cross loop that is run clockwise and covers a variety of terrains and surfaces, including double-track, dirt roads, hard-packed grassy sections, and softer runnable paths near wetlands. The course is flat with no significant elevation gain.

There are two timed race formats and a 100 mile option based on loop count:

  • 14.3 mile loop as the event course.
  • 6 hour Runner Gunner option to complete a single loop.
  • 33 hour Jogger Slogger option to run as many loops as desired; minimum one loop, with scoring by number of finished loops.
  • 100 mile recognition for runners who complete seven full loops within the time limit.

Aid and support include at least two manned aid stations and additional unmanned fluid/ice stations so participants are generally never more than 3-4 miles from support. Because the area is environmentally sensitive entry capacity is limited to 75. Course and aid locations may change close to race day depending on weather and site conditions. Pacers are permitted during night hours. The organizer provides a refund and deferral policy with a deadline, and event cancellation results in deferral rather than mass refunds.

As a designated Palm Beach County Natural Area the following are prohibited: firearms, removal or disturbance of vegetation, smoking, littering, feeding or harassing wildlife, bicycles, horses, alcohol, and dogs or pets. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
