Treasure Coast Endurance Challenge
The Treasure Coast Endurance Challenge takes place at Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound, Florida. This multi-sport event focuses on navigation and endurance, utilizing the local trails, waterways, and natural landscapes. Participants navigate using pre-plotted CalTopo maps to locate checkpoints situated at various landmarks such as trail intersections, canals, bays, and wetlands.
The event features a variety of disciplines including trekking or trail running, mountain biking, and paddling. The terrain includes single-track mountain biking trails, dirt or gravel roads, some paved sections, and flat-water kayaking or canoeing. Participants can choose between several competitive formats:
- 5K Trail Run: A standard trail running distance through the park.
- 25K Trail Run: A longer trail running event for endurance athletes.
- 3 Hour Adventure Race: A course covering 10-18 miles for solo participants or teams of up to four.
- 6 Hour Adventure Race: A more intensive navigation course covering 20-40 miles for solo participants or teams.
The adventure races are structured for different experience levels. The shorter duration race features checkpoints that are more easily located, while the longer duration race emphasizes advanced navigation skills and endurance across land, water, and swamp environments. All participants are required to sign a USARA waiver to take part in the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
