Grim Reaper Running Festival : Grimsthorpe Castle Estate
The Grim Reaper is a multi-distance trail event held at Grimsthorpe Castle Estate in South Lincolnshire across the weekend of May 29 and 30, 2027. Runners use a 10 mile loop that passes ancient woodland, grass trails, limestone tracks, quiet estate roads and a disused Victorian railway line, and skirts the estate lake before returning to the castle. The course is fully marked and each lap has about 550 ft of elevation.
Distances available:
- 10 miles day and night races
- 40 miles
- 70 miles
- 100 miles plus a 100 mile team relay
Medical cover will be provided by fully qualified medics. There is an aid station at mile 5 with limited snacks, water and a toilet; ultra runners are expected to be largely self sufficient and may leave tents or shelters near the start/finish. Camping is permitted on-site on the Friday and Saturday nights with the camp area close to the start/finish.
Rules and requirements include age limits, cut off times for the ultras, and mandatory kit for the 40, 70 and 100 mile races when racing after 6pm. Key mandatory items include a charged mobile phone with provided emergency contacts, survival blanket, primary and backup lights, additional warm layer, waterproof jacket and at least 1 litre of water capacity. The event operates as a cupless race so entrants must bring a cup. Additional rules cover pacers, crew points, dog policy for 10 mile races, littering and course cutting. All finishers receive a medal and trophies are awarded to top finishers and teams. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
