Event summary
The Hoby Hop is a chip-timed, five-mile cross country and Canicross race across the Upper Wreake valley. The route uses fields, stiles, brooks and traditional footpaths and includes some hills and views over Leicestershire. The event includes both a human-only trail race and a Canicross race involving runners with dogs. One hundred percent of event profits are allocated to local charities and community projects.
Logistics and results
Race headquarters is at Hoby & District village hall. Facilities at the HQ include bag drop, toilets, number collection and on-the-day entries if places remain. Car parking is provided on the church field, Thrussington Road, Hoby, LE14 3EB. The event has a capacity of 175 entrants. Entry fee is £10. Minimum ages are 12 years for the trail race and 18 years for the Canicross race. Online entries close on 01/10/2025; on-the-day places may be available if the event is not sold out.
Prizes are awarded in multiple categories for both the trail and Canicross races, including overall, veteran, local and junior categories, team awards and spot prizes, plus awards for breaking course records. Recorded course bests include: Trail male 29:08 (2021), Trail female 30:34 (2021), Trail junior male 33:07 (2022), Trail junior female 46:35 (2020), Canicross male 39:35 (2024) and Canicross female 39:41 (2024).
