God's Own Back Yard Ultra Spring
Leeds, United Kingdom • 23 May 2026
Event Overview
God's Own Backyard Ultra Spring is a "silver event" held in Leeds. As part of the Backyard Ultra Series, this competition follows a specific format where participants attempt to complete a loop of 4.167 miles every hour. The event continues until only one runner remains. This silver-level status means the winner qualifies for a spot in the gold world team championship.
Course Details
The course consists of a 4.167 mile loop. During daylight hours, the route features a mix of terrain including farmland trails, woodland trails, tarmac paths, and canal towpaths. This section includes elevation gains but is designed to be completed within the one-hour time limit. To ensure safety, a specific night yard is used that follows a tarmac canal towpath to avoid crossing the water in the dark.
Competition Format
Participants must be at the starting line every hour on the dot. If a runner fails to complete the loop within the hour or is not present at the start line when the bell sounds, they are disqualified and receive a DNF (Did Not Finish). The event concludes only when one athlete completes a solo loop after all other competitors have dropped out. This final runner is the only participant who does not receive a DNF.

The event is based at Hunters Greave in Hawksworth. On-site facilities include:
