God's Own BYU - Spring 2027
God's Own BYU is a backyard ultra held at Hunters Greave, Pollard Lane, Hawksworth, Leeds LS5 3BF on 29 May 2027. Competitors run repeated loops of 4.167 miles and must complete each loop within the hour to be allowed to start the next hour. Runners who fail to complete a loop in time are recorded as DNF; the event continues until one runner completes a loop alone and is declared the champion.
The event follows the Backyard Ultra Series format and offers a pathway to a place in Big Dog's Backyard Ultra through the BYU Championship. Entry requirements include a minimum age of 18. Entry fee is listed as £90 and entries are currently full.
The route is mixed terrain, including canal towpath, farmland trail, woodland trail and tarmac paths, with elevation gain on each loop. A slightly different night route is used to avoid crossing the canal after dark; that section is on tarmac canal towpath. Participants should wear appropriate clothing for the conditions and bring a headtorch and spare batteries for night running.
On-site provisions include hot and cold water, fruit and sweets, camping, toilets and first aid cover. The course will be fully waymarked and marshalled. All participants receive a bespoke Yorkshire goodie bag and a T-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
