Flat Branch Ultra is a rails-to-trails ultramarathon raced as a 50K in Columbia, Missouri. The out-and-back route follows the MKT Trail for about 7.5 miles, then the Katy Trail west toward Rocheport. The turnaround is located just east of Rocheport, past the I-70 bridge. The course runs along the Missouri River and beneath river bluffs; a nearly 400-year-old Burr Oak can be seen about 8.5 miles into the route. The race course will be USATF certified in 2026.
Course details and event logistics
The start and finish are at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park, 800 West Stadium Blvd, Columbia, MO. Aid stations and drop-bag service are provided: Start/Finish (mile 0 and mile 31), Scott Blvd (miles 3.25 and 25.5), Burr Oak (miles 8.5 and 20.5), and the Turnaround Aid Station (mile 15.5). Drop bags left at the start/finish are transported to the turnaround and returned after the turnaround is completed. Competitors must be checked in at the Turnaround Aid Station by noon. Packet pickup is available on race day at the start/finish area and requires signing a USATF waiver. Finisher awards and top three overall male and female awards are presented in person at the finish. Photographs from the course and finish will be posted and made available at no charge.
