Dovedale Dash

The Dovedale Dash is a cross country running event located in the village of Thorpe near Ashbourne, within the southern Derbyshire Peak District. Established in 1953, the event is held in the valleys of the river Dove and Manifold. The course consists of field paths and open ground, featuring a crossing of the river Dove at the Stepping Stones.

The event offers two distinct distances:

  • 4 3/4 miles: The main cross country race for participants aged 12 years or older.
  • 1 1/4 miles: The Childrens Mini Dash for participants aged 11 and under.

The main race starts from Thorpe pastures and proceeds through Lyn dale toward the river crossing. The 4 3/4 mile course is typically completed by approximately 1,200 to 1,400 participants. Free parking is provided on-site at Thorpe pastures, though access is subject to ground conditions.

The Childrens Mini Dash follows a clockwise route around the foot of Thorpe Cloud. This course leads runners down to the river Dove and along the bank to the stepping stones, without crossing through the water. The final segment involves an uphill section through Lin Dale to reach the main finish line. This junior event features specific categories for those aged 8 and under and those aged 11 and under. Parents or guardians are permitted to accompany children during the Mini Dash. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
