Event overview

The Devil o' the Highlands Footrace is a point-to-point trail ultramarathon on Saturday 25 April 2026. The course follows the West Highland Way from Tyndrum to Fort William and covers 42 miles / 69 km with a total ascent of 6500 ft (1981 m). The route is way-marked, around 95% trail and 5% road, and has a 12 hour time limit. Entries accept female, male, and nonbinary runners; the entry fee is £100 and the minimum age is 20.

Pre- and post-race buses are available (extra cost), and the event provides start-to-finish baggage transport, two checkpoint drop-bag locations, free showers at the finish, and hot food and drinks at the finish marquee. The event operates an opt-out t-shirt system and avoids single-use plastic cups. The 2026 charity partner is Lochaber Woman's Aid.

Race details and rules

There are four checkpoints: Bridge of Orchy (7 miles, water), Glencoe Mountain Resort (17 miles, water and Coke, drop bag), Kinlochleven (27 miles, water and Coke, drop bag), and Lundavra (35 miles, water and Coke). There are cutoffs at three checkpoints expressed as race-time limits; runners who miss a cutoff will be timed out and must stop.

Mandatory kit includes an emergency foil blanket, a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, waterproof trousers, and a charged mobile phone. Running poles may be used only after Bridge of Orchy. The use of NSAID painkillers on race day is forbidden. Support and spectator access is restricted before specified checkpoints.
