Event overview

The Devil o' the Highlands Footrace takes place on Saturday 25 April 2026. It is a point-to-point trail ultramarathon of 42 miles / 69 km along the West Highland Way from Tyndrum to Fort William. The route is way-marked and does not require navigation. Total ascent is 6500 ft (1981 m). The course is mostly trail (about 95%) with a small proportion of road (about 5%). The event has a 12-hour time limit and four checkpoints along the route.

Logistics, services, and rules

Checkpoints are at Bridge of Orchy (7 miles), Glencoe Mountain Resort (17 miles), Kinlochleven (27 miles) and Lundavra (35 miles). Water is available at all checkpoints; Glencoe and Kinlochleven also provide Coke and accept drop bags. Two drop-bag locations are offered and start-to-finish baggage transport is provided. Pre- and post-race buses are available at extra cost and spaces are limited. Showers, hot home-made food and drinks are provided at the finish.

Entry fee is £100. Minimum age is 20. The event accepts female, male and nonbinary entrants and uses an active gender entry system with 350 places initially allocated to women and 350 to men, plus a nonbinary option. Required kit includes an emergency foil blanket, waterproof jacket with taped seams and hood, waterproof trousers and a charged mobile phone. Running poles may be used only after Bridge of Orchy. Dogs are not permitted. The use of NSAID painkillers on race day is forbidden. The event aims to reduce waste and will not use single-use plastic cups. Trail runs nearby

Join the Buchlyvie 10k trail on 24 January 2026 in Stirling for a mostly flat out and back on an old railway track, chip timed with great support and post race baking. Limited to 300 runners, fun medals and goodie bags for all.

Run a scenic 21 mile loop around Ardgartan Peninsula with about 3,500 ft of climbing, mostly off road through forests and coastal hilltops. Expect testing winter weather and a steep return to the Rest And Be Thankful.

Enjoy the Hidden Glen 10K at Monachyle Mhor on April 26, a scenic tarmac to trail run along Loch Doine with some muddy, puddly sections so trail shoes are recommended. A 1K fun run and medals for all make this a great family day out.

Glen Lyon Ultra is a scenic 31 mile off road test in remote Perthshire with about 3500 ft of ascent and wet river crossings around Loch Lyon. Rugged trails and lochside camping make this a memorable challenge for adventurous trail runners.
