Devil o' the Highlands Footrace

The Devil o' the Highlands Footrace is a 42-mile ultramarathon. It is a point-to-point race along the West Highland Way trail in Scotland, running from Tyndrum to Fort William. The race began in 2003.

The route is waymarked, so no navigation is required. It is 95% trail and 5% road, with a total ascent of 6500ft. There are four checkpoints along the course. The time limit to finish is 12 hours.

There is a bag drop service from the start to the finish. Runners can also deposit two food drop bags for specific checkpoints. At the finish, there are free showers, homemade soup, hot food, and drinks. A pre-race bus from Fort William to the start and a post-race bus back to Tyndrum are available for an extra cost, but spaces are limited.

All runners must be at least 20 years old on race day. The entry fee is £100. The event uses an active gender entry system when places first become available, with separate allocations for women, men, and non-binary runners. There are no entry transfers or deferrals.

Participants are required to carry specific mandatory gear: an emergency foil blanket, a waterproof jacket with a hood and taped seams, waterproof trousers, and a charged mobile phone. External support for runners and spectators is only allowed at the Glencoe and Kinlochleven checkpoints. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
