Glen Ogle 33 Ultramarathon : event description
The Glen Ogle 33 Ultramarathon is a roughly 33 mileish foot race in Perthshire, running between Killin and Strathyre. The course follows part of cycle route No 7 and the Rob Roy Way, passing the village of Killin, the Falls of Dochert and the Glen Ogle Viaduct.
There are checkpoint and water stations at approximately 4, 8 and 16 miles. The route continues to Balquidder and then to Strathyre, where a halfway checkpoint and a drop-bag opportunity are provided. Runners must meet the published midway cut-off at Strathyre or they will be removed from the race.
The return section follows the Rob Roy Way, passes the Mhor 84 hotel, crosses the Glen Ogle Viaduct again and goes over the pass of Glen Ogle, including a four-mile downhill stretch into the finish in Killin.
The event takes place in the Scottish Highlands in November; because weather can be severe there is mandatory and recommended kit for participants. A race information pack and race numbers are sent out about two weeks before the race; entrants are expected to read and comply with that information.
Refund and entry terms are specified: a £15 administration charge for withdrawal within 30 days of entry, 50% refund from entry until 12 weeks before the race, and no refund from 12 weeks to race day. No deferrals or transfers are permitted. Total places are 400. A service fee applies to entries. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
