Trossachs Trundle
The Trossachs Trundle is a 22.4 mile Challenge Event organised by the Heart of Scotland LDWA on a circular route from Callander that circumnavigates Loch Venachar. The route has 3350 ft (1020 m) of ascent and runs mainly on good tracks, paths and private roads.
The route starts and finishes at the event HQ at Kirk Hall, Callander (GR NN629077). The route passes Bracklinn Falls, ascends Callander Crags with views over Ben Vorlich, Stuc a' Chroin, Loch Venachar and Ben Ledi, follows the Rob Roy Way to the first checkpoint at Bochastle (7.6 miles), then continues along the Great Trossachs Path to Brig o'Turk (13.7 miles). After crossing Black Water and passing Achray Farm the route returns along the south shore of Loch Venachar with a checkpoint at 19.1 miles and finishes through Coilhallan Wood.
Light snacks are provided at the 7.6 mile and 19.1 mile checkpoints, more substantial snacks at the 13.7 mile checkpoint and hot food is served at the finish. Certificates are given to all entrants. Entry is limited to 80 places with fees specified for members and non-members. Entries are accepted online within stated opening and closing dates and refunds are possible before a stated deadline minus an administration fee.
Entrants must be at least 16 years old and those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Dogs are not allowed. A specified kit list and event rules apply and a risk assessment has been prepared. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
