Dale Head
Rosthwaite, United Kingdom • 19 Oct 2025
The Dale Head Fell Race, organized by Keswick Athletic Club, is a traditional 7.8 km (4.8 miles) fell running event held in Borrowdale, starting at the Rosthwaite Institute. Featuring a challenging 675m (2215ft) climb, the course includes a steep ascent through Rigghead quarry to Dalehead Tarn and the summit cairn, followed by a descent back to the showfield. The race is part of the Borrowdale Shepherds Meet show and demands strong navigational skills due to often poor visibility and variable weather conditions. Competitors must carry essential kit such as waterproofs, compass, and whistle. Entry is £5 on the day, with facilities available at the start venue.
