NAV4 Ullswater Way & Challenge

NAV4 Ullswater Way & Challenge takes place on 31 October 2026 with event headquarters at Parkin Memorial Hall, Pooley Bridge, CA10 2NH. The event offers two clockwise routes around Ullswater that start and finish in Pooley Bridge.

Routes:

  • 20 miles Ullswater Way
  • 24 miles Ullswater Challenge via a high level fell path around the head of Glencoyne

Both routes pass The Cockpit, Howtown and Hallin Fell and reach Glenridding, where participants choose the low level lakeshore route or the higher Glencoyne traverse. The high level section is steeper and uses narrow fell paths; it will be closed in bad weather, in which case all participants follow the lower 20 mile route.

The route is waymarked with LDNP and Ullswater Way signs, with additional signage and event staff at key points. The terrain varies from wide tracks to narrow rocky paths and some short stretches of tarmac. A written route description is provided.

The event is organised as a low key supported walk and run rather than a race, although times are recorded. Checkpoints provide food and drink. Individual support crews are not allowed. Entry is limited to 125 participants, minimum age 16. Entry fees are £35 for the 20 mile route and £40 for the 24 mile challenge. Participants are asked to carry suitable clothing and footwear, a waterproof jacket at minimum, and a drinks bottle or mug for checkpoints. Free tea, coffee, cake and soup are available at the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
