Corvedale Cake Walk
The Corvedale Cake Walk is a distance event held in Shropshire, starting and ending at the historic Holdgate Church near Much Wenlock. Organised by the Marches Group of the Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA), the event traverses varied terrain through the heart of the Corvedale and across the local hills. Both walkers and runners are permitted to participate in the event.
Participants can choose from two distinct distances:
- 22 miles
- 10 miles
The 10 mile route heads from Holdgate to the summit of Abdon Burf, which is the highest point in Shropshire. From the summit, the path continues to Clee St Margaret before passing through Tugford and returning to the start via local fields and lanes.
The 22 mile route also climbs to the summit of Abdon Burf. After reaching Clee St Margaret, it continues to Munslow Park and ascends Wenlock Edge, offering views toward Mid Wales. The course then passes through Eaton and Wilderhope, utilizing sections of the Jack Mytton Way before finishing back at Holdgate Church.
Checkpoints along the courses provide refreshments including sandwiches, hot drinks, and cake. A meal of hot dogs is served at the finish. Participants are required to bring their own mug for drinks. Due to the presence of livestock along the route, dogs are not permitted. Participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Recommended navigation tools include the OS Explorer 217 map. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
