Cline Buttes Last Person Standing : event description
The Cline Buttes event in Redmond, Oregon, offers multiple timed and fixed-distance options on a loop course around Cline Butte. The course is a 3.1 mile loop that includes a 0.5 mile climb gaining about 800 feet to the top of Cline Butte, followed by a downhill section that repeats each lap. Runners in the timed events complete as many laps as they choose within their selected duration.
The event formats include:
- 3, 6, 12, and 24 hour timed events
- Last Person Standing : participants begin a loop each hour until one runner remains
- 5k : one loop
There is one aid station at the start/finish offering snacks and meal-based foods for longer events, and beverages including sodas, broths, electrolyte drinks, and hot beverages. Runners are required to carry their own drinking vessel; paper cups will only be available for hot soup or drinks in limited cases.
A portion of proceeds supports the Mountain View High School cross-country team. Starting in 2024, race registration is free for Native American and Indigenous runners with tribal verification. Youth discounts are available for athletes 18 and under. Volunteers receive food during shifts and may earn a free entry or future race credit for certain roles.
The race enforces conduct and safety rules; violations such as littering, course cutting, use of mechanized transport, harming natural resources, or refusing official decisions may lead to disqualification. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
