Haulin' Aspen : event overview

Haulin' Aspen is a trail running event in Bend, Oregon, held at Wanoga Sno Park. The event includes three distances:

  • Marathon
  • Half Marathon
  • Half As - 6.5 miles

All courses are all-trail, with single track and forest service roads through the Deschutes National Forest. The start and finish areas are at Wanoga Sno Park at about 5,500 feet elevation. The finish line is at the east end of the Wanoga parking lot, roughly 1/2 mile from the start through the parking area.

Course, aid stations and race logistics

The terrain is variable with rolling sections, steep climbs and fast descents. Trails may be dusty and rocky in places. Temperatures are cooler in the early morning and can rise during the day. Marathon runners face a noted 700-foot vertical gain between roughly mile 21.5 and mile 24. Marathon aid is provided at six stations, with two stations passed twice for a total of eight aid opportunities; locations are near miles 2.4, 4.7, 9.7, 12.7, 15.3, 19.1, 21.3 and 24. There is a roughly 5-mile gap between the second and third marathon aid stations. The half marathon and Half As courses have multiple aid stations as well. Packet pick up is offered the day before at Footzone in downtown Bend and bibs may also be picked up on race morning.
