North Downs Way 50
The North Downs Way 50 is a 50 mile (81 km) point-to-point ultramarathon along the North Downs Way National Trail, running from Farnham in Surrey to Knockholt Pound on the outskirts of Greater London. The route covers approximately 5,600 feet (1,700 m) of climb and follows the first 50 miles of the NDW100 course.
The event is held under a UK Athletics permit and is part of the 50 Mile Grand Slam series. The surface is approximately 80% trail and 20% road. The course is marked by North Downs Way signposts, Centurion marker arrows and pink ribbons, but runners remain responsible for navigating the route and negotiating several road crossings, some of which are un-marshelled. There are six fully stocked aid stations offering a range of sweet and savoury foods and drinks suitable for different dietary needs. Hot food and drinks are available at the finish.
Entries are limited and subject to a qualification standard: entrants must have completed at least a marathon distance within the cut off time of that event between 1 January 2020 and race day. The entry fee is £115 (£117 unaffiliated). Pacers and crews are not permitted and spectators must not attend check points. A finisher medal is awarded to all finishers and prizes are given to top placings by gender and veteran categories.
Mandatory kit includes a fully charged mobile phone, minimum 1 litre fluid capacity, survival blanket, waterproof jacket with sealed seams, whistle, headtorch (minimum 100 lumens), a cup and the GPS tracking unit supplied at registration.
