Event overview

The Borders 8-hour Challenge on 22 November 2025 is an endurance event in Borders Forest Park near Rock UK Whithaugh Park. Participants aim to complete as many 4.366 mile trail loops as possible within an eight-hour limit. Each lap includes about 480 ft of ascent. Electronic wristbands record the number of laps and the time each lap is completed using a Basecamp timing monitor.

  • 3 laps = Half Marathon
  • 6 laps = Full Marathon
  • 7+ laps = Ultra Marathon

Logistics and requirements

Basecamp is shown on the event GPX map and offers kit storage, two 6 x 3 m gazebos and an indoor hall; spectators are welcome. Parking is charged at £5 per day and £15 per night for campervans and campers, with overnight access to water and toilet facilities. Rock UK will provide onsite catering with hot food, snacks and drinks.

A mandatory kit list requires sufficient nutrition and hydration (minimum 500 ml fluid per hour and 60-90 g carbohydrates per hour of running), appropriate weather clothing, dry clothes for the end of the event, a mobile phone and a headtorch. Entry places are limited to 175. Refunds are available up to two months before the event; transfers to other events are allowed up to one month before; participant transfers are allowed up to one week before.
