Crown King Scramble : Lake Pleasant to Crown King, Arizona
The Crown King Scramble is a point to point 50 kilometer (31.1 mile) footrace that travels from the shores of Lake Pleasant through the Sonoran Desert and up into the Bradshaw Mountain pines. The course begins on rolling dirt forest roads and transitions to rough four wheel drive jeep trail for the sustained climb into higher elevation forest. Total elevation gain is listed at 6,828 feet and the route tops out around 6,500 feet before a final descent into Crown King.
There are five on-course aid stations providing water, an electrolyte drink, fruit, sweet and salty snacks, and drop bag access at one midcourse aid station and at the finish. The event is cupless; runners must carry their own container for refills. Crews and pacers are not permitted on course due to its remote nature. Cutoffs at several aid station locations and at the finish are strictly enforced.
Logistics include scheduled bib pickup, one-way shuttle service available from the finish back to the start, chip timing with live split tracking, and mobile medical teams positioned on course and at the finish. Awards are presented to top finishers in multiple categories and all finishers receive a custom finisher award. Camping and local lodging options are noted for participants who plan to stay in the area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
