Thrasher Night Trail

Thrasher Night Trail is a series of night trail races held at Cave Creek Regional Park in Cave Creek, Arizona. The event offers four distances:

  • 33K
  • 22K
  • 11K
  • 5K

The courses use an 11 kilometer loop that includes the Slate, Quartz, Go John and Overton Trails. The 33K distance is three loops and the 22K is two loops, with runners passing the start and finish after each lap. Each loop includes two climbs at Quartz and Go John. Trails are rolling desert singletrack with a mix of smooth and more rugged sections.

Aid support includes a fully stocked main aid station at the start and finish and a remote Go John aid station on the long loop. Stations supply water, ice, electrolyte drinks, salty and sweet snacks, fruit, pb and j, bean rollups, and hot food such as quesadillas and grilled cheese. The race provides chip timed results, finish line photos, finisher awards by Aravaipa Artworx, and live tracking with split points.

Crews are allowed at the start and finish only. Pacers are not allowed for any distance. Drop bags are available at the start and finish area for easy access. Courses are marked with orange plastic ribbons with black polka dots, reflective medallions, laminated signs, and blue and white checkerboard flagging for wrong way trails. Temperatures at the start are typically in the 60s and organizers supply ice and water on course. The park charges a $10 entry fee per vehicle as of 1 1 26. Pets are not allowed on course during the night runs and must be leashed and supervised if present at the event. Insomniac Night trail runs are cupless so runners must provide their own cup or purchase an Aravaipa branded reusable cup. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
