Jackass Night Trail
Jackass Night Trail is a night race held as part of the Javelina Jundred weekend at McDowell Mountain Regional Park near Fountain Hills, Arizona. The event follows a single loop of the Javelina Jundred course and is offered as the 31 km (19 miles) Jackass option so runners experience the park, aid stations, and the Jackass Junction party during a single night loop.
The loop runs primarily on desert singletrack including sections of the Pemberton Trail, sandy washes, and moderate climbs with varied footing. Runners pass four on-course aid stations each loop: Javelina Jeadquarters (start/finish), Coyote Camp, Jackass Junction, and Rattlesnake Ranch. The longest aid stretches noted are about 6.5 miles between Coyote Camp and Jackass Junction, and a similar distance between Rattlesnake Ranch and the start on the first loop. Aid stations carry water, ice, sports drinks, gels, sweet and salty snacks, fruit, and several prepared food options.
The night format emphasizes costume and glow gear; recommended items include a headlamp and spare batteries. There are no pacers allowed for the 31 km race and crewing is restricted to Javelina Jeadquarters. Participants should be prepared for exposed desert conditions, wide temperature swings after sunset, and an event environment that includes loud or risqué entertainment; organizers reserve the right to remove anyone who interferes with staff or other runners.
