The Anglezarke Amble is a challenge walk organised by LDWA West Lancashire. The event is based at Rivington Village Hall (postcode BL6 7SE). It crosses Rivington, Anglezarke and Turton Moors in the West Pennine Moors and finishes in Rivington. Runners may only use the long route. The event was reported as full and using a waiting list.
Routes and landmarks
The route passes several named places and features, including Lever Park, Rivington Pike, Winter Hill (almost 1,500 ft), Scotsman’s Post, Turton and Entwistle Reservoir, Darwen Moors and Darwen Tower, Roddlesworth Woods, Great Hill, White Coppice, Anglezarke Reservoir, Yarrow Reservoir and Upper Rivington Reservoir.
Distances:
- 24 miles (long route)
- 16–17 miles (short route reported as 16 or 17 miles)
Both routes have a 10 hour time limit.
Logistics, checkpoints and rules
Entry fees were listed as £12 for LDWA members and £18 for non-members; fees include checkpoint refreshments, food at the finish and a certificate. Checkpoints provide refreshments at specified miles: short route at Slipper Lowe after 9.6 miles; long route at Entwistle Barn after 10.1 miles and at Slipper Lowe after 18 miles. Participants must carry a map, compass, whistle, torch, waterproofs, first aid kit, food, drink and a mug. Random equipment checks may be made and non-compliance can lead to disqualification. Tallies must be handed in at checkpoints when retiring. Missing or visiting checkpoints out of order must be reported and may result in disqualification.
