Altra 13 Valleys Ultra - Lake District National Park

The Altra 13 Valleys Ultra is a multi-distance trail running weekend held in the Lake District National Park, celebrating the 13 valleys that form part of the area's UNESCO World Heritage designation. The event takes place from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September 2026 and routes run around lakes, fells and through the named valleys of the National Park.

Participants can choose from the following distances:

  • 21 km 2 Valleys Trail
  • 58.4 km 5 Valleys Ultra
  • 110.3 km 7 Valleys Ultra
  • 184.3 km 13 Valleys Ultra

Course and technical details vary by distance. The longest course is listed as 184.3 km with a highest point of 800 m+, total elevation around 7000 m+, 12 feed stations, a 46.5 hour cut-off and the course is not waymarked. The 110.3 km route has around 3800 m+ elevation, 7 feed stations, a 28 hour cut-off and is not waymarked. The 58.4 km route lists about 2500 m+ elevation, 3 feed stations, a 19 hour cut-off and is waymarked. The 21 km trail has a highest point of 408 m+, 439 m+ total elevation, 1 feed station, an 8 hour cut-off and is waymarked.

The event is registered with the International Trail Running Association and awards up to 6 ITRA points depending on distance. The 7 Valleys and 13 Valleys races are official qualifiers for the Western States Endurance Run. Five percent of each entry fee is donated to the Lake District Foundation to support environmental projects. Ambleside Sports includes a BOFRA fell race on 30 July 2026 at Rydal Park. The course is 1.70 miles with 800 feet of climb through bracken to a rocky summit and includes senior and junior routes.

Rydal Round on 30 July 2026 is the opening Ambleside Sports fell race, listed as 14.5 km with 915 m of climb. Entry is on the day only and competitors must carry full kit under FRA rules.

A 17 mile Borrowdale fell race with about 2000 m ascent, starting and finishing in Rosthwaite, limited to 350 runners and requiring prior fell-race experience.

A fell race on Farleton Knott with a 2.60 mile / 4.20 km route and 750 feet / 230 meters of climb. The course climbs the front of the fell, crosses the top and returns along the lower path; parking costs £3.
