About the race

Altra 13 Valleys Ultra is a multi-distance trail running event in the Lake District National Park, linking the 13 valleys that form part of the area's UNESCO World Heritage designation. The event spans a weekend in late September 2026 and offers a range of trail distances through lakes and valleys.

Available distances include:

  • 185.7 km, 13 Valleys
  • 110.6 km, 7 Valleys
  • 81 km, 6 Valleys
  • 58.1 km, 5 Valleys
  • 21 km, 2 Valleys

Course characteristics vary by distance. Reported highest points are generally 800 m or more for the longer routes and 408 m for the 21 km route. Total elevation reported ranges from about 439 m for the 21 km route up to about 7000 m for the longest route. Cut off times and number of feed stations differ by distance, for example the longest route lists a cut off of 46.5 hours and 12 feed stations while shorter routes list shorter cut offs and fewer feed stations. Some routes are waymarked and others are not. The event is registered with the International Trail Running Association and finishers can earn up to 6 ITRA points depending on distance. The 13 Valleys route is also available year round for walkers and runners. Five percent of every entry fee is donated to the Lake District Foundation to support local environmental projects. Volunteer roles are available for the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
