Altra 13 Valleys Ultra

The Altra 13 Valleys Ultra is a trail and mountain running event held in the Lake District National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The event links together the unique valleys for which the park is recognized. Participants run over fells, through valleys, and around various lakes and waters. The event is registered with the ITRA (International Trail Running Association), and finishers can earn up to 6 ITRA points depending on the chosen distance. Additionally, specific distances serve as official qualifier races for the Western States Endurance Run.

Five percent of every entry fee is donated to the Lake District Foundation to support environmental projects within the National Park. The event offers four distinct distances:

  • 184.3 km (13 Valleys): A loop starting and finishing in Keswick, featuring 12 feed stations and over 7,000 m of elevation gain.
  • 110.3 km (7 Valleys): Starts at Waterhead and finishes in Keswick, including 7 feed stations and 3,800 m of elevation gain.
  • 58.4 km (5 Valleys): A waymarked route from Waterhead to Keswick with 3 feed stations and 2,500 m of elevation gain.
  • 22.4 km (2 Valleys): A waymarked loop starting and finishing in Keswick, including one feed station and 500 m of elevation gain.

The two longest distances are not waymarked and require navigation. All routes include regular checkpoints to provide fuel and support. The 180 km distance is intended for experienced ultra-runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
