Event overview

The 13 Valleys Ultra weekend runs Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September 2026 in the Lake District National Park. The route covers trail and mountain running over fells, around lakes, and through multiple valleys. The course includes regular check points and feed stations on all distances. Some events start and finish in Keswick; others start at Waterhead and finish in Keswick.

  • 22.4 km - 2 Valleys Trail (Borrowdale, Bassenthwaite, Thirlmere)
  • 58.4 km - 5 Valleys (Borrowdale, Bassenthwaite, Thirlmere, Ullswater, Haweswater, Windermere)
  • 110.3 km - 7 Valleys (adds central valleys to the 5 Valleys route)
  • 184.3 km - 13 Valleys (covers thirteen Lake District valleys)

Each distance is way marked. The 2 Valleys event lists a single check point; longer distances have regular check points and feed stations. The 13 Valleys event is described as intended for experienced ultra-runners.

Accreditation and fees

The event is registered with ITRA; finishers can earn up to 6 ITRA points, depending on distance. The 13 Valleys Ultra and 7 Valleys events are official qualifier races for the Western States Endurance Run. Five percent of each entry fee is donated to the Lake District Foundation. Circle Ullswater on a scenic 20 miles lakeside route or push further on a 24 miles high level fell traverse in a friendly, non competitive event. Staffed checkpoints, clear waymarking and post event tea and cake make for a rewarding day out..

Run the trails of Dodd Wood with your dog or solo, climbing to the summit for panoramic views across the Coledale Fells. Choose a 5K or 8K marked loop with chip timing and individual starts to give pups plenty of space.

Take on the scenic 10 mile Derwentwater Ten around the lake in Keswick, a challenging clockwise loop of undulating tarmac. Hosted by Keswick AC from Keswick School, this popular autumn race offers on site facilities and race day support.

Tackle a classic Lake District fell race around the Lickle and Duddon valleys, starting and finishing outside the Blacksmiths Arms in Broughton Mills. Expect steep climbs across 8 km with sweeping views and a friendly pub finish.

Join the classic Sale Fell Race at Sale Fell near Wythop Mill, a testing 3.7 mile fell run with 900 ft of ascent and hilltop views. Friendly to juniors and veterans, it mixes competition with scenic countryside.

Take on a scenic 10 km trail around Kendal on 22 November 2025, with limestone scars, cobbled climbs and views over Morecambe Bay. A friendly, not for profit event by Ourea Events supporting Kendal Mountain Rescue.
