About the race
The Altra 13 Valleys Ultra takes place in and around Keswick CA12 within the Lake District National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The event offers multiple trail distances that run over fells, lakeshores and through the valleys, with routes that are either waymarked or supplied as GPX and route notes.
Available distances include:
- 180 km (13 Valleys)
- 110 km (7 Valleys)
- 80 km (6 Valleys)
- 55 km (5 Valleys)
- 22 km (2 Valleys Trail)
Course details vary by distance. Feedstations and medical cover are provided on all main routes; for example the 13 Valleys has 13 feedstations and about 7,000 m total elevation, the 7 Valleys has 7 feedstations and about 3,800 m elevation, and the 2 Valleys Trail has one feedstation and about 500 m elevation. The 2 Valleys, 5 Valleys and 6 Valleys courses are waymarked; GPX files and route notes are available for the 7 Valleys and 13 Valleys. GPS tracking is provided via OpenTracking. Finishers receive a locally made slate coaster medal and a patch. An event village and partner offers are part of the event.
Entry rules include minimum ages for each distance and mandatory briefings and kit checks for the ultramarathon distances. The 13 Valleys entry requires a participant self-declaration of experience and preparedness. There are cut-off times for each distance, for example 45 hours for 13 Valleys and 8 hours for 2 Valleys.
