Altra 13 Valleys Ultra

The Altra 13 Valleys Ultra takes place in the Lake District National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The event offers four distances: 2 Valleys Trail (22.4 km), 5 Valleys Ultra (58.4 km), 7 Valleys Ultra (110.3 km), and 13 Valleys Ultra (184.3 km). It is scheduled for Friday 25th to Sunday 27th September 2026.

The route connects valleys within the national park and features trail and mountain running past lakes and over fells. Some courses are waymarked, while others are not.

  • 13 Valleys Ultra: 184.3 km with over 7000m of elevation gain and a 46.5-hour cutoff.
  • 7 Valleys Ultra: 110.3 km with over 3800m of elevation gain and a 28-hour cutoff. This event is a qualifier for the Western States Endurance Run.
  • 5 Valleys Ultra: 58.4 km with over 2500m of elevation gain and a 19-hour cutoff. The course is waymarked.
  • 2 Valleys Trail: 22.4 km with over 500m of elevation gain and an 8-hour cutoff. The course is waymarked.

The 13 Valleys Ultra and 7 Valleys Ultra distances are listed as sold out. Entry fees for the available distances start from £70 for the 2 Valleys Trail. Five percent of every entry fee is donated to the Lake District Foundation for environmental projects. The event is registered with the International Trail Running Association (ITRA), with finishers eligible for ITRA points based on the distance completed. This inaugural night run at Whinlatter Forest features chip-timed 5km and 10km courses on mixed trails. Starting at 6pm with individual starts, it welcomes runners with or without dogs and requires a head torch.
