Wood You Rather at Mt. Tabor Park

Wood You Rather is a checkpoint run held at Mt. Tabor Park in Portland. There is no pre-set course; each participant receives a map at the start with checkpoints marked and chooses their own route to visit them. Runners have two hours to collect as many checkpoints as possible and return to the finish. Depending on route choices, participants can expect to run around 5–8+ miles with roughly 800–1000+ feet of elevation gain.

Format, entries and logistics

The event accepts solo runners and teams. Teams must have 3 to 6 members. Team time is the average of all team members' times. A team’s checkpoint count is determined by the lowest number of checkpoints found by any one team member. If any team member finishes after the course cutoff, the entire team is recorded as a Did Not Finish (DNF).

Capacity is 200. Maps are simple and trails are marked; a compass is optional. Each finisher receives a Wood You Rather mug. Top male, top female, top non-binary, and top team receive prizes. Donuts and coffee are provided at the finish. Kids 12 and under race free but must run alongside a registered parent or guardian. Cancellation policy: cancellations more than 30 days before the race receive a 50% credit toward a future Go Beyond Racing event; cancellations 30 days or less before the race receive no credit. Parking is available in the park and on nearby neighborhood streets. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
