Wood You Rather
Wood You Rather is a checkpoint run at Mt. Tabor Park Amphitheater in Portland on September 25, 2027. There is no preset course; participants receive a map at the start showing checkpoint locations and choose their own routes to visit them. Runners have two hours to collect as many checkpoints as possible and return to the finish within the event time limit. The overall winners are those who visit the most checkpoints and return in the fastest time.
The event offers Solo and Team categories. Teams must have between three and six people. Team members may run together or separately; team time is the average of member times and the team score is based on the lowest number of checkpoints collected by any teammate. If any team member misses the finish cutoff, the entire team is recorded as a Did Not Finish.
Course distance depends on chosen routes. Participants can expect approximately 5 to 8+ miles with 800 to 1000+ ft of elevation gain, depending on route choices and strategy.
Registration opens March 1 with tiered fees: $50 (Mar 1–14), $60 (Mar 15–May 9), $70 (May 10–Sep 18), and $75 on race day if space remains. Kids 12 and under race free but must be registered and run alongside a parent or guardian. The event acknowledges the traditional homelands of the Cowlitz, Clackamas, and Atfalai Tribes.
