TrailFest - Salcey Forest
TrailFest is a multi distance day of trail running held in Salcey Forest, NN7 2HX. Distances on the day include:
- 10K
- Half marathon
- Marathon
- 50 km
The venue is a Forestry England site with a café and toilets near Northampton. Paid parking is required and currently quoted between £3.80 and £9. The number 33 bus stops inside Salcey Forest on the route between Northampton and Milton Keynes. The site is about 18 minutes from Northampton by road and around 9 minutes from Junction 15 of the M1. The closest train station is Northampton.
Course surfaces are mainly well maintained forest pathways with crushed stone or trodden open forest floor. There is no asphalt except for two road crossings on the longer routes. Some sections cross grassland and may be soft when wet; most of the route is hard packed trail. Road shoes are possible in typical conditions, with light trail shoes likely more suitable for the uneven stony surface.
The event operates a cupless aid station policy so participants must carry a cup or bottle for on-course drinks. Dogs are not permitted. For Half marathon, Marathon and 50 km entrants a cup or bottle holding at least 200 ml is mandatory. A foil blanket and a charged mobile phone are strongly advised. Missing mandatory kit carries a one hour time penalty.
Crew may assist runners but pacers are not permitted to run alongside except in the final 100 metres. Spectators may attend but must not move along the trail. A grass area near the headquarters can be used for a gazebo with prior notice.
A single event cutoff is set at 19:00, which results in an 11 hour limit for the 50 km option. GPX files are provided as a backup and the course will be clearly marked on the day. Entry fees are tiered with lower prices for earlier entries and a small surcharge for unaffiliated entrants. All finishers receive a medal and a choice of Big Bear drink.
