The routes share similar sections of the forest and are mainly on well maintained pathways. There is no asphalt except for two road crossings on the longer routes. Facilities, rules and logistics
Salcey Forest is a Forestry England site with a cafe and toilets. Parking is charged (about £3.80 - £9). The number 33 bus serves the forest and the nearest train station is Northampton. GPX files for the routes are provided as a backup and the course will be clearly marked on the day.
The event is run under a UK Athletics / Trail Running Association licence so dogs are not permitted. It is a cupless event - aid stations do not provide cups. Mandatory kit rules apply: half marathon, marathon and 50 km entrants must carry a cup or bottle of at least 200 ml; 10K entrants are recommended to carry a cup or bottle. A foil blanket and charged mobile phone are strongly advised. Missing mandatory items incurs a one hour penalty to finish time. Crew are allowed; pacers are not permitted to run alongside participants except in the final 100 m. All finishers receive a medal and a choice of Big Bear drink.
