TrailFest - Salcey Forest
TrailFest is a day of trail running set in Salcey Forest, Northamptonshire, organised by Big Bear Events. The event offers four distances to choose from:
- 10K
- Half marathon
- Marathon
- 50 km
Routes use similar sections of the forest and are mainly on well maintained pathways. There is no asphalt except two road crossings on the longer routes. Surfaces are mostly crushed stone or well trodden open forest floor, with some grassland sections that may be soft after rain. The course is heavily marked and GPX files are available as a back up.
Salcey Forest is a Forestry England site with a café and toilets. Parking is paid, listed between £3.80 and £9. The number 33 bus stops inside the forest and the nearest train station is Northampton. The site is minutes from Northampton and from Junction 15 of the M1.
The event operates a cupless policy with no cups provided on site. Mandatory kit rules differ by distance: 10K entrants have no mandatory kit although a personal cup or bottle is recommended; half marathon, marathon and 50 km entrants must carry a cup or bottle of at least 200 ml. A foil blanket and a charged mobile phone are strongly advised. Missing mandatory items incurs a one hour penalty to finish time.
All finishers receive a medal and a choice of Big Bear drink. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
