Trail Running plus Pollinator Science in Missoula

This event on May 30, 2026 combines a trail run with a field training session led in collaboration with the Xerces Society. The outing takes place on Mount Dean Stone with the meeting point at the Skyline Trailhead in Skyline Ridge, Missoula, Montana.

The route uses the House of Sky trail and includes a bumble bee field training at Mitten Mountain. The run is approximately 4 miles round trip. The training demonstrates how to safely catch, photograph, and release bumble bees and provides the knowledge and equipment needed to contribute to the Montana Bumble Bee Atlas.

Participants should bring their own water and snacks. A small butterfly net and vials for catching bees are provided by the Xerces Society. Carpools will be coordinated from Pattee Canyon. Registration is free; registration opens April 22, 2026 and closes May 30, 2026. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
