Dark Skies Run Race Series

The Dark Skies Run Race Series is a set of night trail races organised by Trail Outlaws at three reservoir locations: Kielder Waterside, Grassholme Reservoir and Derwent Reservoir. Kielder holds a gold tier Dark Sky Park status awarded by the International Dark Sky Association in December 2013. Grassholme and Derwent are also described as being within dark skies areas.

The series offers multiple race options and entry prices in the range of £25 to £70. Age limits vary by event; some races require entrants to be 18 or older, while the 10K option is open to entrants aged 16 or older. Event entries list separate offers for different distances and a combined double entry.

Participant feedback in the event information highlights consistent themes. Many reports describe friendly and helpful volunteers, clear atmosphere and good aid station provision. Several participants noted issues with small or insufficient signage at some points on the course, occasional route variations that made distances longer than advertised, and mixed availability of chip timing. Finish area arrangements such as a warming tipi and post‑race food were mentioned by attendees. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
