Trail Running in the Moab Desert
The Thelma and Louise Marathon, Half Marathon, and 15K is a women's focused trail running event held in the remote Behind the Rocks area of Moab, Utah. The course is designed to be rugged, featuring a combination of sandy washes, technical doubletrack, smooth jeep trails, dirt roads, and slickrock sections. Participants run past significant geological features, including the red rock walls of Lone Rock and the maze of fins within the Behind the Rocks Wilderness Area, with views extending to the La Sal Mountains.
The event offers several distance options to accommodate different preferences:
- 50k: Features approximately 2,979 feet of elevation gain and loss.
- Marathon: Features approximately 2,644 feet of elevation gain and 2,657 feet of loss.
- Half Marathon: Includes approximately 1,178 feet of elevation gain and 1,214 feet of loss.
- 15k: Offers approximately 745 feet of elevation gain and 768 feet of loss.
This is a cup-less event, meaning runners must bring their own reusable cups or hydration systems to use at the water dispensers located at the start, finish, and all aid stations. Aid stations also provide Gatorade Endurance Formula and various food items.
Participants receive a race-specific shirt, a custom shot glass, and a belt buckle finisher medal. During registration, runners can choose to have either the name "Thelma" or "Louise" printed on their bib.
