Trail Running in Moab
The Canyonlands Ultra is a trail running event held in Moab, Utah. Part of the Run Moab Series, the event serves as the kickoff for the Triple Crown of Moab. The courses consist of varied terrain, including sandy washes and technical double track. Participants run among sandstone domes and canyons with views of the La Sal Mountains.
The event offers several race distances to accommodate different experience levels:
- 100K
- 50 Mile
- 50K
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 15K
The courses feature significant elevation changes. For example, the 100K distance has an elevation gain and loss of 7,828 feet, while the 15K features 689 feet of gain. The event is managed as a cup-less race, meaning runners must bring their own reusable cups or hydration systems to use at water dispensers located at the start, finish, and aid stations.
The start and finish lines are located off Behind the Rocks Trail, approximately 13 miles south of Moab. Participants have access to free camping at the onsite base camp. All finishers receive a custom race shirt, a hat, and a medal. Participants must wear a timing chip on their shoe to recorded a result.
