Event overview
The Summit 200 is a 200-mile single-loop ultramarathon around Summit County, Colorado, based in Frisco, CO. The route uses mostly single-track trails and forest roads, with some recreation paths and short sections of pavement. The course stays above 9,000 feet for its lowest sections and rises past 12,800 feet, with approximately 40,000 feet of total climbing. The race field is capped at 100 runners and the overall cutoff is 110 hours.
Course support, requirements and policies
The event includes 12 full aid stations, 4 sleep stations, and drop-bag support. There are long stretches without aid - up to 29 miles - and crew-accessible aid locations are limited, likely only 3 to 4 spots with the first crew-accessible area around the 70-mile mark. Organizers provide live GPS tracking via a Garmin inReach and require each runner to carry the provided tracker and a GPX of the course on a phone.
Runners must have a previous finish of at least 100 miles to register. Mandatory carried gear includes a water filter, rainproof jacket or poncho, head covering, long-sleeve jacket, gloves, long pants or tights, an emergency or space blanket, a wag bag, a whistle, and at least 1.5 liters of water carrying capacity. The event has a deferral credit policy (100% credit 90 days prior; decreasing to 25% at 15 days prior), no refunds, and offers a 10% military discount when requested before registration.
