Course and Terrain

The Summit 200 is a 200-mile single-loop ultramarathon in Summit County, Colorado. The non-repetitive course utilizes hiking trails, 4WD roads, and recreation paths, with the majority being single-track trail and infrequently traveled forest roads. The event is known for its high altitude, with the lowest point being over 9,000 feet and sections reaching above 12,700 feet. Total elevation gain over the route is approximately 40,000 feet.

Event Details and Requirements

The event has a 110-hour cutoff time, requiring an average pace of 33 minutes per mile. A previous 100-mile race finish is a prerequisite for entry. The race is capped at 75 runners for its 2026 edition, with a possible increase to 100.

Aid and Support

The course features 12 full aid stations and 4 sleep stations. Most aid stations offer made-to-order hot food, including vegan options. Participants are provided with LIVE GPS tracking via a Garmin Messenger device. Drop bags are available.

Participant Experience

All registered runners receive a BOCO bag, a tri-blend t-shirt, a coffee mug, and other small items. Finishers receive a custom belt buckle and a finisher's jacket with a year-specific patch. A 20K route around Turquoise Lake in Leadville, CO, running clockwise from Matchless Boat Ramp with paved and single track sections. Adult entry is $40 and under 18 run free. Parking is limited and a day use fee may apply.

Experience a scenic 5K trail run through subalpine forests and lakeside paths at the historic Leadville National Fish Hatchery. This cross country style event supports local youth athletics and recreation in the Leadville area.
