Course and logistics
The looped course uses five legs of about 3.2-5.3 miles to form a ~20 mile loop. Runners complete the loop multiple times for longer distances. The course changes direction by year - clockwise on odd years and counterclockwise on even years. Terrain is approximately 75% single or double track and 25% jeep roads, with varied features including steep climbs, ridgelines, long descents, creek bottoms, pine floors and jeep roads. Approximate total ascent/descent by distance: 20.35 mi ~3,000 ft; 40.7 mi ~6,000 ft; 61 mi (100k) ~9,000 ft; 101.7 mi ~15,000 ft.
Race procedures note two indoor aid stations, drop bags allowed at both aid stations for solo runners, pacers allowed after completing two loops (40 mi) for solo 100k and 100 mi runners, and no pacers for 40 mi, 20 mi or relay runners. Registration rules include no refunds; distance changes and bib transfers have deadlines in January 2026. Awards and event swag are specified by distance, with belt buckles for 100 mi and 100k finishers and medals for 20 mile finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
