The course direction alternates by year: clockwise on odd years, counterclockwise on even years. Terrain is roughly 75% single/double track and 25% jeep roads, with steep climbs, ridgeline running, steep descents, creek bottoms, pine-floor sections, and jeep roads. Approximate distance and elevation figures:

- 40.7 mi : ~6,000 ft ascent/descent
- 61 mi (100k) : ~9,000 ft ascent/descent
- 101.7 mi : ~15,000 ft ascent/descent
Two indoor aid stations are on course. Drop bags are allowed at both aid stations for solo runners (size recommended similar to a 14-gallon tote). Pacers must register and are permitted for solo 100k/100mi runners only after completing 40 miles; pacers are not allowed for the 40mi, 20mi, or relay entries. Cutoffs are given as total elapsed time per distance: 100 mi and 100k : 34 hours; 40 mi : 20 hours; 20 mi : 8 hours. On-course hydration is supplied by a local company. On-site indoor camping with shower access is available for race weekend; open fires are not permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
