The Priory 100km Ultra
The Priory 100km Ultra is a long-distance trail running event that follows the Northumberland coastline. This point-to-point race begins at the Links Road car park near Bamburgh Castle and concludes at Tynemouth Priory. The course covers a distance of 100 km with approximately 2,400 feet of total elevation.
The route passes through several coastal landmarks and villages, including Beadnell Harbour, Dunstanburgh Castle, Craster, and Warkworth Castle. The final section of the trail leads participants through Seaton Sluice, Whitley Bay, and Cullercoats before entering the gates of the finish location. As an A-B event, participants are responsible for their own transportation to the start, though a bag drop service is provided to transport luggage from registration to the finish line.
The event is waymarked and fully supported with five feed stations located at Low Newton, Boulmer, Warkworth Beach, Newbiggin, and Blyth. These stations provide hydration, energy bars, fruit, and snacks. Safety measures include extensive medical cover and marshals stationed at key points. All participants are tracked throughout the duration of the event, which has a maximum cut-off time of 24 hours.
Participants must carry a mandatory kit list in a backpack, which includes:
- Water or fluids
- A charged mobile phone with emergency contact details
- Food or gels
- A lightweight jacket
- A headtorch for those finishing after 9:00 pm
Finishers receive a metal medal, event-specific merchandise, and hot food and drinks at the finish line. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
